NumisScan
Privacy Policy
Effective June 2026
NumisScan helps collectors identify, grade and value U.S. coins from photographs. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why, and who we share it with. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show advertising.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in readable form).
- Coin photographs you capture or upload, including any optional close-up detail shots and the labels you choose for them.
- Scan results generated for you: identification, grade estimate, value estimate and any error or die-variety attribution.
- Optional details you enter, such as a coin's weight in grams.
- Which coins you save to your collection.
- Basic technical information needed to operate the service, such as request timestamps and error logs.
Camera and photo library access
- Camera access is used only when you actively take a photograph of a coin inside the app.
- Photo library access is used only when you choose to upload an existing photo.
- We do not access your camera or photo library in the background, and we do not scan or index the rest of your library.
- You can decline or revoke either permission in your device settings; the app remains usable, but you will not be able to add new coin photos.
How your photographs are used
- Your coin photographs are sent to a third-party AI vision provider so the coin can be identified, graded and attributed.
- Depending on the engine you select, that provider is OpenAI, Anthropic or Google.
- Photographs and their results are stored in our database so you can revisit a scan and keep your collection.
- We do not use your photographs for advertising, and we do not publish them.
Payments
- Subscriptions are purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store using your store account. We never receive or store your card number, CVC or expiry date.
- Purchases are managed on our behalf by RevenueCat, which receives your store receipt and an anonymised app user identifier to confirm whether your subscription is active.
- We store only your subscription status and its current expiry date so we know whether your Pro access is active. Google's and Apple's handling of your payment data is governed by their own privacy policies.
Service providers we share data with
- AI vision providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) — receive the coin photographs and text prompt needed to produce a result.
- RevenueCat, Google Play and the Apple App Store — process and validate in-app subscription purchases.
- Our hosting and database provider — stores the data described above on our behalf.
- We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers.
How long we keep your data
- Your account, scans and saved collection are kept while your account is open, so your history remains available to you.
- When you delete your account, your account record, your scans and your uploaded photographs are permanently deleted from our database.
- Limited billing records may be retained by Google, Apple or RevenueCat where required for tax and accounting purposes.
Your choices and rights
- You can delete your account and all associated coin photographs at any time from the Account tab in the app.
- You can request a copy of your data, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing bbop676@gmail.com.
- You can cancel your subscription at any time; cancelling stops future charges and access continues until the end of the paid period.
- You can revoke camera and photo permissions in your device settings at any time.
Security
- Passwords are hashed with bcrypt and are never stored or transmitted in readable form.
- Access to your scans and collection is restricted to your authenticated account.
- Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password.
Children
- NumisScan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Accuracy disclaimer
- Grades, values and variety attributions produced by the app are automated estimates for guidance only.
- They are not a certified appraisal and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or provided by PCGS, NGC, the Cherrypickers' Guide, Wexler's Die Varieties or Variety Vista, whose published standards and attribution numbers are referenced for educational purposes.
- For an authoritative opinion on a valuable coin, submit it to a professional grading service.
Changes to this policy
- If we make a material change we will update the effective date shown above and surface the change in the app.
